CWS Lacrosse – Lightning & Inclement Weather Guidelines

Weather Monitoring

Coaches and program volunteers will monitor local forecasts and radar closely before and during all events. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, danger is imminent.

Severe Weather Procedures

Immediate Halt: Stop play and practice immediately at the first flash of lightning or clap of thunder.
Evacuation: Move all players, coaches, and spectators to safe, fully enclosed shelters or vehicles immediately.
The 30-Minute Rule: Wait at least 30 minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder before resuming play.
Clock Reset: Any subsequent lightning or thunder restarts the 30-minute clock.
Cancellation: If delays persist or safety cannot be guaranteed, activities will be canceled.

Communication

Primary Channel: All weather alerts and cancellations will be posted directly on Crossbar.
Secondary Channels: Updates may be shared via email and social media if time permits.
Default Status: If no notification is published on Crossbar, events will proceed as scheduled.
